So, its 2011....What happened to 2010?

When I wrote up my targets for 2010 I had high hopes for the year but it seems the elements were against me from the start with the news labelling the weather at the beginning of the year as 'The Big Freeze 2010' which is also the same name they have given for our second bout of Arctic weather conditions nine months later.

There was an apparent light on the horizon with 'experts' predicting our hottest summer since the 1970's but in reality I think we had a record rainfall in Swansea meaning the lake that I'd been fishing on for the past two years had flooded more times than ever. I know that catching fish is not always fine weather event but it would have been nice to go home every once in a while with everything bar the net still dry. I can't think of anything more disheartening than spending multiple sessions blanking in the rain.

All of the 2010 targets I'd set have remained unachieved! I'd like to think that it was a thin line on all of the them but I have to bow out and admit that I simply did not come close. In refection I did achieve a few things like two double figure Bream in one session and my biggest achievement ever, the life changing event of becoming a father which is something that I'll always be happy about.

I fished for Catfish and even had one on but that was as close as I came. I had a few Tench around the 2lb mark but nothing coming close the target weight. Perch fishing was halted by frozen lakes and the biggest Carp was 18lb and even though I am pretty pleased about it it was still nowhere near 25lb.

I think the only remedy for this is a rollover, I will push the 2010 targets into 2011 and hopefully the next twelve month will see me ticking a few of them off.
  1. To land a Carp over 25lb.
  2. To land a Catfish.
  3. To land a Perch 3lb 8oz.
  4. To land a Tench on or over 4lb.
Angling wise I am happy to put 2010 behind me and lets hope that 2011 can produce a few new PB's and if that fails lets just hope I have fun.

I am sure at least two of the four will be hit next year Dan, I think a 4lb tench will come from the pleasure lake at Hazel Court Ponds (if we find time to get there) also I think it's your turn for a Cat, not only will you do it but I think you will get a 40lb + fish, just hope I can be there to net and photo it for you.
The perch will be tough, but as long as you put a few days in on te Old Canal (White Springs) then you will always have a chance, as for the Carp, 25lb it's worth a go, but I think the Fendrod will have to take a back seat for the year and we will have to look at other waters, I have a Bristol water in mind that gives you a good shout, but I think a 20lb fish should still be your 1st target.
Heres to a good 2011 Dan, Tight lines
